You are watching: What does fd mean in cars

Im just wondering what does these stand for: FD, FC, FR,? If im missing anything else let me know. Thanks.
Oh yeah I totally got that, but what Im trying to figure out is what does each initial stand for? Sorry if I wasnt specific.
That"s like asking what ZZT231 means. It"s just a chassis code, FD3S and FC3S. FR is what they say in Japan for RWD cars. Not sure why, but I can guess it"s like Front steering Rear wheel drive, fs FF which is Front steering Front wheel drive... That"s just a mneumonic device for me to remember it though, who knows what the right one is

FR is not a japanese thing. It stands for Front engine Rear wheel drive. FF stands for Front engine Front wheel drive. MR stands for Mid engine Rear wheel drive.

true, MR just means mid engine, rear wheel drive. in fact, the car can have the engine in front of the drive and still be called a MR as long as the engine is NOT over the front hubs.
I"m still amazed at the number of people clinging to ancient superstition and asking invisible people who live in the clouds for guidance.

technically speaking, yes, but when a car manufacturer says their car is an MR, it means the engine sit right behind the driver/passenger but in front of the rear wheels.Front-Midship layout is what your talking about. The engine sits in front of the car however behind the front axles. 350z and S2000"s are FM layouts. I guess one can say these cars are FMR, lol.
